Joseph Proud, a Connecticut native, is a saxophonist with a wide range of teaching and performing experience. As an orchestral saxophonist, he has worked with the Alabama and Mobile Symphony Orchestras, and in 2018 was invited to the Hot Springs Music Festival to perform works by Leonard Bernstein and John Williams.
As a chamber musician, he has performed both locally and abroad with the Proud Duo, a duo of oboe and saxophone which generates new original works, and has given premiere performances in Granada, Spain, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
As a teacher, Joe has developed studios of saxophone students in Georgia, Alabama, and Connecticut.
He most recently taught at the University of Alabama’s Community Music School, where several of his students were accepted to Regional and All-State festivals. He also created and coached the Hillcrest High School Saxophone Quartet, which has performed locally and at the Alabama Music Educator’s Association Annual Conference in Birmingham.
Joe has earned degrees from Central Connecticut State University, Columbus State University, and the University of Alabama.
