Composer, arranger, and pianist Rin Seo grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition from the Sookmyung Women’s University. After being awarded a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music, she moved to the United States and received Professional Diploma from the school. Her original composition was featured by the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra in 2018. Seo recently received Master of Music in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music. She studied with Jim McNeely, a Grammy award-winning jazz composer, and a Contemporary classical composer, Reiko Futing. As one of the finalists, her original composition was performed by Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra in 2019. Seo is a recipient of 2019 BMI Booker Scholarship for young jazz artists. She won 2020 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award and her original composition, “Jazz suite” was recognized as an outstanding composition from the DownBeat magazine Student Music Award. Ms. Seo has served as the Assistant Music Director, arranger, and pianist for the Hyundai Theatre, Banana Choir, and MSMC Musical Company in Seoul, Korea. She taught private lessons in Tonal Harmony, Counterpoint, and Music Theory to over 50 students at Berklee College of Music from 2016-2018, where she also worked extensively as a piano collaborator and musical director. She has taught piano and composition to students of all ages in both private studio and university settings for the past 10 years.
