STAMFORD MUSIC & ARTS ACADEMY
Fairfield County's Elite Conservatory Music Program
Growing up in Hong Kong, Ms. Jane Wong was trained in the ABRSM method. She obtained her diploma in Performance Studies from Birkbeck College, the University of London. In the UK, she was a frequent performer in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and at the Sadler's Wells Theatre. In London, Ms. Wong also discovered the Dalcroze method, a pedagogical approach which includes Eurhythmics, Solfège and Improvisation. She became very curious about how music can be taught. She went to the Longy School of Music and studied Dalcroze, and later, attended the Boston Conservatory Master's of Music program in Boston, MA. In Boston, Ms. Wong plays for dancers at the Boston Ballet, the Jose Mateo Dance Theatre and singers and choral ensembles. Besides accompanying, Ms. Wong also composes for dance, operas and musical theatre. Her music has been performed in Italy, Russia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Canada, LA and NY.
Ms. Wong's teaching usually combines the ABRSM syllabus with the Dalcroze Eurhythmics - a way of teaching young students through discovery. Besides technique, she also includes ear training, applied music theory and sight-reading in her curriculum. Some of her students also pursue the RCM curriculum. Ms. Wong's teaching is positive and motivating. Families would be supported in guiding students' practice at home. Ms. Wong also encourages students to perform and gain experience in performing. Her goal is to nurture life-long learners who appreciate music.
