Alexa Cervantes is a graduate from the University of Connecticut. There, she studied flute under Naomi Senzer and Aimee Toner. Currently, she is the Head Woodwind and Brass Instructor, and Assistant Music Teacher, at Speak Music in Stamford. In addition to her work at Speak Music, Alexa is the Flute Teaching Artists at Project Music, an El Sistema-inspired non-profit based in Stamford. She was also the previous Interim Music Teacher for the Lower School at King School. Along with teaching, Alexa is an experienced performer. Her performance career has taken her to prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Yale’s Woolsey Hall, and Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, both on flute and piccolo. Alexa is also an active volunteer flutist with the Young Artists Philharmonic in Greenwich, and performs at events for the Greenwich Alliance’s Tuning In To Music program. In addition to her teaching and performing, Alexa is also a composer, having written works for woodwinds and full orchestra! Outside of music, she serves as the Program Coordinator at Greenwich United Way. There, she is responsible for managing the youth volunteer and community service programs in the Greenwich area. Alexa is passionate about creating a positive and personalized learning experience for each student, aiming to foster both confidence and curiosity in every lesson.
